Teaser Trailers

Teaser Trailers are essentially short trailers, normally around 30-60 seconds long, and contain very little actual footage of the film. Some teaser trailers can be released up to a year in advance and before any actual footage has been shot. 
This is compared to an average trailer which legally can not go over 2 minutes 30 seconds. The Big 6 are allowed one exception to this rule per year. 


Trailers are taken quite seriously in the film world and they have award ceremonies specifically for them; The Golden Trailer Awards and Key Art Awards.
The best horror trailers at The Golden Trailer Awards were;

1. Antichrist (2009) Lars Von Triar
2. The Crazies (2010) Breck Eisner
3. The Fourth Kind (2009) Olatunde Osunsanmi
4. A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) Samuel Bayer

The Strangers (2008) Bryan Bertino, won best theatrical trailer at the Key Art Awards.
